What are Algae?
Algae are classified according to colour.
Spirulina is one of the blue – green algae, while Chorella is one of the green
algae. They are said to be responsible for helping to boost the immune system
and to help remove toxins from the body.
Spirulina and
Chlorella – Algae of Distinction
Spirulina is an algae which has no hard cell wall
characteristic of plants & Chlorella is an algae which has hard cell wall which
has characteristic of plants. They both
grow and spread by process of photosynthesis.
Photosynthesis is the process by which a organism
containing the green pigment chlorophyll, changes chemicals and nutrients
into food, using carbon dioxide and sunlight, and giving off oxygen as a
waste product.
Spirulina & Chlorella are the two most
commonly, commercially cultivated algae produced for today’s health food and
health supplement market
Spirulina and
Chlorella – What’s in them?
Both Spirulina and Chlorella contain very high
levels of protein, wide variety of minerals, trace elements, essential fatty
acids, vitamins, anti oxidants and pigments. They have come to be
classified as superfoods which are health supplements,
containing just about everything a human body needs
Spirulina and
Chlorella – What are they good for?
Spirulina & Chlorella have the ability to
detox the body, improve the immune system, rebuild nerve tissue, improve mental
function, fight against cancer, help in osteoporosis and arthritis, weight
loss, amongst many others
Spirulina contains
a powerful combination of important vitamins and minerals such as iron,
vitamin E, zinc,
B-complex, copper, calcium, and magnesium. It is also
a rich source of the antioxidant beta-carotene and the essential fatty acid
gamma linolenic acid (GLA).
Spirulina &
Chlorella can produce 20 times more protein per area than soybeans, 40 times
more than corn, and 200 times more protein per than non veg.
Spirulina also
contains very little calories, sugar, or starch. The average 500 mg tablet of spirulina contains only one to two calories. It does
offer some carbohydrates in the form of rhamnose and glycogen,
both of which are easily absorbed by the human body. Thus, the sugars found in spirulina can provide a quick, healthy energy boost.

and spirulina
